I also offer a number of legal documents that can work in conjunction with a will or trust to relieve effort for your executor or trustee and save time for your beneficiaries:

• A transfer on death deed allows title to automatically transfer to a beneficiary when you pass.

• A designation of guardian of children ensures a trusted caretaker for your family.

• A designation of agent for disposition of remains continues your agency over your body.

• I will also advise you on strategically designating beneficiaries so that your financial accounts, life insurance policies, and motor vehicles can pass to your beneficiaries outside of probate.

With these documents and designations in place, your will can be a relatively uncomplicated document, making the probate process more straightforward for your executor.

There are other important documents you should consider, too:

• By having in place a statutory power of attorney, medical power of attorney, and HIPAA authorization for release of medical information, you take care of yourself and others by empowering them to work with your doctors and see to your obligations if you cannot.

• With an advance directive, you relieve your caretakers of having to make very difficult end-of-life decisions by making the decisions yourself.
